Grand Canyon 101: Visiting the Grand Canyon Skywalk
Nearly a million people have marveled above the Grand Canyon's spectacular beauty standing on the Grand Canyon Skywalk since it opened on March 28, 2007. The Skywalk is a glass bottom cantilever bridge 4,000 feet above the Colorado River at the western rim of the canyon.
The Skywalk is not your typical Grand Canyon viewing. You can't just decide to go, drive up and take a peek. Instead you need tickets in advance. Tickets are $30 for adults, $23 for kids 3-11 and $27 for seniors and military members. This is in addition to the cost of a Legacy Pass ($43) which is the cost of admission to Grand Canyon West. Unlike the South Rim and North Rim, the western rim is not a US national park. It is on Hualapai tribal land.
NOTE: No cameras or any other personal articles are allowed onto the Skywalk. Instead they will take your photo and you can have the option to purchase it later for about $30 per photo.
To get there you have to drive down 14 miles of a dirt road and park at the Grand Canyon West airport. Or if you prefer you can pay $15 per person for a round trip bus ride from Meadview, AZ. Get directions to the Skywalk HERE.
If you'd prefer, you can get a tour package from Las Vegas- the closest major US city to the Skywalk- HERE.
