Las Vegas Photo Op

Question of the day?

Where are the best locations on the Strip for a photo op?

Looking for some fabulous spots to snap a pic in Las Vegas? The first shot on your camera should definitely be of the famed Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign located at the south end of Las Vegas Boulevard. A convenient parking area has even been constructed nearby so that you don’t have to make a dash across several busy lanes of traffic—like visitors had to do in the past. Some other great places to take photos on the Strip are in front of the giant MGM Grand lion, the Bellagio fountains and The Mirage volcano. At Paris Las Vegas, you should get a shot of the replica of the Eiffel Tower. It’s not as tall as the original, but the half-sized reproduction, which is based on Gustav Eiffel’s designs, is still amazing. And finally, what could be more pleasant than wandering beside the canals at The Venetian? With the walkways and bridges, it makes for an interesting modern/Old World backdrop. You’ll see authentic gondolas both inside and outside the resort. Why not ask one of the handsome gondoliers (most of whom are from Italy) to take your picture!

A Top-Flight Experience

On April 16, the Aircraft Experience show, which is organized by the trade publication Aircraft Journal, was held at the Henderson Executive Airport. This event attracted top jet manufacturers such as Cessna, Piper, Cirrus and Hawker Beechcraft. These companies unveiled their latest personal and corporate jets.

The event drew about 550 people—including Max Marker, our group VP. He enjoyed the exciting displays and was proud to represent Maverick Aviation Group. In fact, just last year, our company launched Maverick Airlines, which operates two Beechcraft 1900D ExecLiner planes that shuttle Las Vegas visitors to and from the West and South Rims of the Grand Canyon from the Henderson Executive Airport.

This was the first time the Aircraft Experience was held in Las Vegas. The city was selected because it has a reputation for being a hot market for luxury items like jets. The event was even covered in the local media. In the April 18 edition of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, there was an article entitled “Aircraft Experience Shows Jets That Help Executives Cover Ground Fast.

Travel Gal Embarked On A New Adventure

Travel Gal Renée LiButti has been on the move again—and this time she didn’t have to go far for an unforgettable sightseeing expedition. A Las Vegas native, LiButti simply drove her car to Maverick Helicopters’ main terminal, which is located just south of Mandalay Bay. This was one recent evening before sunset. When she got there, she took the company’s popular Vegas Nights tour. It was a rare and remarkable opportunity to go on a helicopter ride over, through and around the Las Vegas Strip. Two words could describe her flight: Absolutely stunning! LiButti wrote about some her favorite sights from her unique bird’s-eye vantage point—which included a romantic fly-by of the glittering Eiffel Tower and a close approach to the thri ll rides perched atop the Stratosphere Tower (where she swore she could hear screams). Indeed, it was a night and a flight to remember! You can read the full story about it at http://www.maverickhelicopter.com/travel-gal-las-vegas-night-tour.php

Maverick Helicopters Knows “No Barriers”

Maverick Helicopters is known for going to all lengths to make sure that visitors who fly with us are comfortable and well taken care of. Joel Barish, the host of the Internet TV show “No Barriers,” can vouch for this. Today, he took the company's popular Wind Dancer tour and filmed a segment about his experience.

“No Barriers” is broadcast on deafnation.com, a Web site that serves the deaf community. Barish is always in hot pursuit of adventures that can be enjoyed by all—and he certainly found one in terms of the visual splendor at the Grand Canyon.

Barish has been in Las Vegas for several days checking out a variety of hotels, restaurants and attractions in order to make advance recommendations for the DeafNation World Expo, which will be held here in July of 2010. More than 50,000 people are expected to attend from around the world—and we hope they’ll all come on a Maverick Helicopters' adventure, just like Barish did!

Hyundai Reps Enjoy A Helicopter-Driven Getaway

Hyundai, one of the largest carmakers in Korea, recently hosted a large international sales meeting in Las Vegas. Company representatives from Russia, China and many other faraway countries were in attendance. Maverick Helicopters was pleased to escort a group of 56 of them on its popular Wind Dancer excursion. After being picked up by motor coaches from the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa, the Hyundai reps were flown over Hoover Dam en route to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. Judging from the "oohs" and "aahs," it was an adventure they will never forget. And, when the tour concluded, the helicopters returned them to the resort in VIP style—which is the only way that Maverick Helicopters knows how to do business!

Golf And Maverick Helicopters—What A Combo!

On April 16, Maverick Helicopters will send a team to participate in a golf tournament sponsored by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Then, on April 17, the winning team from the previous day will fly with Maverick’s own golf players for the next round at TPC Summerlin. This event gathers all of the city’s corporate and meeting planners to discuss, share and enjoy a good time out in the Las Vegas sunshine.

By The Numbers

Maverick Helicopters recently flew a group of 199 international visitors to the amazing Grand Canyon. Our group sales staff handled this large gathering with ease and class—which is the only way Maverick Helicopters knows how to operate. I was amazed at the endless stream of people and at how smoothly everything went from checking them in to loading the aircraft.

Moon Civetz, who handles all of the groups booked through Maverick Aviation Group, explained that the process and knowledge of the staff help make these larger groups manageable.

Civetz will welcome another huge group later this year from Amway. These members will be coming to Las Vegas from all over the world.

Do You Have A Bucket List?

Moon Civetz, the vice president of group sales for Maverick Aviation Group, is a friend of former Indy Racing League driver Sam Schmidt.

Schmidt is an inspiring man. The son of a drag racing competitor, he found himself bitten by the motor sports bug shortly after graduating from college. In 1992, Schmidt bought himself a Sports Renault race car and began competing in regional events. He won several titles early on, and in 1997 he was able to embark on his first year in the Indy Racing League. Schmidt quickly emerged as a star. In the 1999 season finale at the Texas Motor Speedway, he was even ranked third in the point standings and had a shot at winning the championship. Unfortunately, the following year, while practicing for the 2000 IRL season at the Walt Disney World Speedway in Orlando, Fla., Schmidt lost control of his car and hit the wall with tremendous impact. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition and diagnosed as a quadriplegic.

Not one to let anything hold him back, Schmidt has made profound progress in rehabilitation from these devastating injuries and now leads a full life. Today, he is the owner of Sam Schmidt Motorsports and has formed The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation. He spends nearly a third of each year traveling in support of his team and the foundation.

Schmidt had recently mentioned to Civetz that an item on his bucket list is to take a helicopter ride. So Maverick Helicopters is going to try and make this happen for him in April. Right now a few adjustments are going to have to be made to accommodate Schmidt since he is in a wheelchair.

We will keep you posted...
