I have always been curious about helicopters since I was a kid. Just hearing the noise of one would make me look up at the sky. My first helicopter experience was when I was 8 years old and took a helicopter ride off of Fisherman's wharf around Alcatraz Island for 25 dollars. After high school, I attended the University of California Santa Barbara as a pre-med major. I quickly found out I did not like anything related to medicine so I got the bug to fly helicopters. After looking at various schools in the western U.S., I chose a flight school in Sacramento California. After graduating, they hired me to teach for the school, which I did for 2 years. After my tenure there, I moved to Alaska for the summer and flew tours on Alaska's Glaciers for cruise ships, before eventually moving on and flying offshore oil rig support in the Gulf of Mexico. After about a year of offshore work, I applied to Maverick.

I started as a line pilot and April 1, 2012 makes 15 years here.

Weirdest request from a passenger was my first year as a pilot here on night tours. The female passenger asked to kiss the pilot. What was weird about it? Her boyfriend was with her.

There are caves high up on the walls of the Grand Canyon that are filled with bats! When in flight, there appear to be bushes growing along the banks of the Colorado River. These are actually trees; some as high as 10 meters.

I have been flying with Maverick for 8 years. Prior to Maverick, I flew Med-Evac and was a flight instructor contracted to I.C.E., formerly U.S. Customs and Borders.

I have always been interested in aviation. However, my first real career was in radio as a "radio pesonality" for numerous radio stations in Grand Junction, CO, Las Vegas, NV and San Jose, CA. After being fired from my last radio job, I was fed-up with the entertainment business and didn't know what I wanted to do next. While at a family reunion in the mountains of California, my sister and I witnessed a Life Flight Helicopter land to pick up an injured camper. She said, "Matt, you should do it." And that is what I did, 23 years ago. Thanks Juliette!

I have always loved the outdoors. Any chance I have, I want to run to a mountain or a desert area, just to explore and see what is hidden on the other side. Flying helicopters gets to me to places no other man could really go by vehicle. The added bonus is that the views are amazing.

“Marc, do you mind if I get buck naked and run around the bottom of the Grand Canyon?” I told him, “ Yes, I do mind. You will scare off the rest of the animals that are in the canyon”.

At the Wynn, they have a very nice spot to sit and enjoy the show that comes out of their featured waterfall. Great for friends or family to have a meal.

Hawaii is my favorite. It is very beautiful and quiet.

I do like and enjoy many of the shows here in Las Vegas, but the best show in town is in my helicopter on a flight to the Grand Canyon.

I grew up in the 80’s and there were so many great (or that was how I saw them) TV shows and movies that had helicopters: Blue Thunder, Airwolf, Magnum PI, The A Team, and Firebirds. Basically, I just didn’t give up on what I wanted to do when I was a kid.

I have been with Maverick for just over 2 years.

A funny request is to fly past Mount Rushmore. Though I would like to honor this request, it is tough to do since the monument is 1000 miles away from Las Vegas.

I think the fact that Las Vegas has the Atomic Testing Museum, to celebrate the fact that atom bombs were tested in the desert just north of Las Vegas, is really interesting. But I would have to say that I love Red Rock Canyon. I go hiking and climbing on the rocks there often with my family.

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon receives an average of 142" of snow every year. Phantom Ranch is located at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, only 8 miles away from the North Rim, but due to the vast difference in elevation, Phantom Ranch averages less than 1" of snow annually.

I became a pilot because I started flying at a young age and always wanted it to be a part of my life. As I grew older, I realized that flying helicopters matched my personality best.

My favorite hidden gem of Las Vegas would be the hot springs over by the Hoover Dam. It’s about a 3 mile hike down a beautiful canyon. There are a few hot pools close to the bottom that you can relax in and enjoy.

The dirt bike riding trails that are all over the place out here in the desert. Love me some dirt bike ridin'. :)

I knew I wanted to be a pilot after high school. First, I wanted to be an airline pilot, but couldn't afford it. Later, I joined the military and they paid for my flight training.

So, I guess you can say I just never grew out of wanting to fly! I'm very blessed to have started at a young age and now work for a tour company that's a cut above the rest!

I had grown up around aviation and always wanted to fly professorially. Growing up close to an EMS base is what made me want to fly helicopters rather than fixed wing, and they are way more fun!

Assuming there were a bridge, traveling at 60 mph, it would take almost 20 minutes to cross the Grand canyon at its widest point.
